The Human Moment Only Takes 60 Seconds

Here’s the truth—people don’t need a lot of your time.
But they need 60 seconds of your uninterrupted time.

That’s what I call a human moment.

It’s the moment when you put your phone down.
When you stop glancing at the text.
When you stop performing and start connecting.

I learned this the hard way.
A couple of Christmases ago, I was sitting in the den with my daughter.
We were talking.
Or at least, I thought we were.
Until she looked at me and said,
“Dad, could you quit looking at your phone? Really? Could those text messages not wait?”

Gut punch.
She was right.
I was missing the moment—chasing connection online while ignoring the one right in front of me.

So now, when I coach leaders, I challenge them to create human moments.
Not just in their personal lives—but in every meeting, every pitch, every conversation.

Because your audience expects the standard sales talk.
They expect the slide deck.
They expect the script.

What they don’t expect is you.
Present. Focused. Listening.
For 60 seconds.

That’s all it takes to make someone feel seen.
To make someone feel important.
To make someone remember you.

So today, I challenge you:
Put the phone down.
Look them in the eye.
Give them the unexpected.

Create the human moment.
