From Informational to Influential: Zoom Out

You’ve got the number. You’ve got the slide.

Now what?

In staff meetings around the globe, I see leaders drop data like, “We increased sales by 10%.” “We added 100 new customers.” “We improved warranty claims by 15%.”

That’s information, but it’s not influence.

Here’s what we teach Black Sheep Global: Good leaders zoom out. Great leaders make it matter.

Let’s take that 10% sales increase. Informational version: “We increased our sales by 10% in March.”

Influential version: “Good morning, everyone. We increased our sales by 10% in March. And I want to tell you this—that’s the best March we’ve had in five years. Congratulations, team.”

See the difference?

You didn’t just share a number. You gave it context. You gave it meaning. You gave it momentum.

Data becomes powerful when it’s connected to story, strategy, and surprise. Your audience isn’t just looking for numbers—they’re looking for narrative.

So next time you’re in a meeting, don’t just report. Zoom out. Go beyond the obvious. Make the stat influential.

Because nobody ever sold anybody anything by boring them to death. And nobody ever inspired a team by staying small.
